A fund has been established to create a scholarship in Rebecca Miolen's name as a memorial to her civic and community service activities. Rebecca died November 8, 2006 in a horse back riding accident. She performed many hours of community services. She worked in a leadership role with the 4-H by helping plan and conducting river cleanups, steam monitoring, animals rescue and drives like school supplies for Iraq children.
The purpose of fund is not only to keep her memory alive but to encourage and reward other young people to be active in community service. Criteria for the scholarship award will be participation in citizenship and community service projects that promote leadership development. Monies recieved may be used not only for tutition, but the many other expenses occurred by the college student.
The Rebecca Miolen 4-H Memorial Fund has been established at Bank of Coweta. Those wishing to make a monetary contribution may mail or take a check to the Coweta County Extension Office on Pine Road. The mailing address is P.O. Box 819, Newman, Ga 30263. Please designate scholarship at the bottom of the check, and the receipt for your tax deductible contribution will be mailed to you.
The 4-H Club will sponsor a fund raiser for the scholarship at the Argriculture Building at the Coweta County Fair Grounds. The date is to be announced. Many horse items have been collected for the sale. Western and English tack including 6 saddles, helmets, jewelry and even a paint gelding. Other sections of the facilitiy will house arts and crafts, a bake sale and a yard sale. Pony rides will be offered also. The sale will start at 9 am, and an auction of some high quality items such as laptop computer and antique wash pot will begin at 11 am. Anyone wishing to contribute items for the sale may contact Pat or James Miolen at (678)378-4150 or the Coweta County Extension Office at (770)254-2620. A truck is avaliable to pick up contributions, or they may be delivered to 5175 Smokey Road, Newnan, GA 30263.
